ADJUSTABLE HEARING PROTECTION DEVICE
The present invention relates to an adjustable hearing protection device for arrangement in and / or on the ear for the purpose of providing a number of distinguishable settings in the degree of protection of the ear.
The use of earplugs is known for protecting the hearing. Many types of protection have been developed through earplugs. Simple forms of protection provide a certain degree of attenuation of ambient noise by blocking the ear canal. Such a blockage also distorts the sound, so that the origin of the sound is difficult to perceive by the user.
When listening to music or voices, however, this is a disadvantage because when listening to music or voices, even if they are played loudly, high quality is often desirable. Ear plugs have therefore been developed with which a partially continuous air duct is realized by means of filters, because the filter comprises a diaphragm with a small opening. On the one hand a high degree of attenuation is achieved and on the other hand the sound is transmitted with a certain quality.
Such an operating principle also has a drawback as determined by the present inventor. Such an ear plug is unable to adjust the attenuation to changing circumstances. When the user moves from a room with a very high noise level to a room with a very low noise level while wearing an ear plug with high attenuation and therefore a higher level of protection, the user cannot function properly in the room with the low noise level because the attenuation is too high for the low noise level to pass. The disadvantage here is that the wearer of the ear plug must insert it alternately and take it out in order to adapt to the circumstances.
In order to obviate such a drawback, the present invention provides an adjustable hearing protection device for arrangement in and / or on the ear, the hearing protection device comprising:
- a house with an acoustic access opening,
- an insertion part for insertion into an ear canal of the ear, extending from the housing with an acoustic outlet opening facing the interior of the ear canal,
- adjusting means for adjusting the hearing protection device in one of at least two acoustic adjusting positions, wherein,
- each acoustic setting position sets one of a number of acoustic couplings between the access opening and the exit opening.
A first important advantage of such a hearing protection device is that it is adaptable to circumstances where high attenuation is desired and conditions where low attenuation is desired. An example of this is a hearing protection device with four adjustment positions, a very strong damping, a high degree of damping, a moderate damping and a position without damping. Using such a hearing protection device set in the high protection setting position, a user can enter a room with a high sound intensity without damaging his hearing. Using a suitable filter, a high degree of sound quality with a high degree of attenuation can be achieved. When leaving the room arriving in a room with a low noise level where the user needs to focus on voices, he can easily adjust the setting position so that the voices can be easily understood in a position with low attenuation or no attenuation.
In a first preferred embodiment, in the hearing protection device the adjusting means comprise a revolver, which revolver can be rotatably positioned at any adjusting position. This makes it possible in a simple manner to adjust the hearing protection device by means of a rotary rotation on the revolver. Since the hearing protection device is located at the ear, it is easy to reach by hand and therefore to perform the rotary movement easily. Alternatively, the adjusting means comprise a slider which slider can be slidably adjusted to suit each setting position. Depending on the preference of the user, such a movement can be easily carried out for adjusting the adjusting means.
According to a further preferred embodiment, each acoustic coupling is provided by a predetermined combination of at least one filter and / or at least one channel configuration. It is for example provided that the same filter or channel part can be used in different acoustic couplings when they are arranged in series or in parallel in each respective acoustic coupler.
Here, at least one of the at least one filter is preferably arranged in the housing. Alternatively, at least one of the at least one filter is arranged in the adjustment means. In an embodiment in which one or more filters are arranged in the revolver, these together with filters and / or channel parts of the housing provide an acoustic coupling when these are arranged acoustically coupled in a setting position.
In a further preferred embodiment, at least one of the acoustic couplings provides a substantially unobstructed acoustic passage of sound.
By using such a preferred embodiment, a variant with a position with almost normal hearing capacity is possible.
Alternatively, in at least one of the acoustic couplings, the hearing protection device further preferably provided an acoustic coupler adapted to simulate or substantially simulate an acoustic coupler as provided by an empty auditory canal. The human ear canal provides a certain acoustic coupling between the eardrum and the environment. This acoustic coupling serves to provide a resonance for providing a gain of certain frequencies, in particular in the range between two thousand and four thousand Hz.
A hearing protection device according to the present invention disrupts this natural resonance in the auditory canal as does any blocking or partial blocking of the auditory canal. The present preferred embodiment overcomes such a drawback by simulating this natural resonance in the hearing protection device by providing one or more resonance spaces therein. These resonance spaces are experimentally adaptable to the ear and, furthermore, preferably take into account the remaining part of the ear canal for providing the earliest possible sound to the eardrum. Preferably, at least one of the acoustic couplings comprises a Helmholtz resonator. A Helmholtz resonator is a space for resonance with a certain volume with two openings arranged substantially opposite each other, an access opening and an exit opening of the chamber.
According to a further preferred embodiment, the device comprises acoustic channel parts and / or filters arranged serially and / or in parallel with respect to each other. With this, predetermined combinations of acoustic couplings can be arranged in the house and / or setting means.
For the purpose of providing a desired damping effect, the at least one filter provides a damping effect on the acoustic coupling by means of a narrowest part of a passage channel with a length greater than the diameter, preferably greater than twice the diameter, more preferably greater than four times the diameter, more preferably greater than five times the diameter, further preferably greater than ten times the diameter. By means of this measure, the present inventor recognizes in a trial and error manner a relationship between the length of the channel and the damping action with which it has distanced itself from a damping action by means of a substantially point-shaped pinch of the passage. The present inventor provides a relatively long channel with a relatively large cross-section for providing comparable damping through a very short pinch point with a very small diameter.
The access opening further preferably comprises a substantially cone-shaped or horn-shaped member for capturing a sufficient amount of sound to provide a sufficient quality after damping thereof.
According to a further preferred embodiment, in the hearing protection device, the adjusting means, preferably the substantially cone-shaped or horn-shaped member, comprise biasing means, such as a deformable wall part, for providing a bias to a wall part comprising a passage opening for sound for bringing this passage opening to location of a selectable acoustic coupling. Because the wall part comprising a passage opening is biased by biasing means, leakage of noise other than via the selected acoustic coupling is prevented or prevented. This increases the quality of the selected acoustic coupling.
According to a further preferred embodiment, a wall part of the adjusting means, such as comprising the passage opening, is similar to a wall part of the housing with which this wall part of the adjusting means provides an acoustic closure for at least one other acoustic coupling than the adjusted acoustic coupling. This also prevents or prevents sound leaks other than via the chosen acoustic coupling.
It is particularly advantageous if the bias is used in combination with the uniformity of the said wall parts. The uniform wall of the adjusting means is hereby pressed under bias against the uniform wall of the housing with which the separation of the acoustic couplings and other types of sound leaks is prevented in an optimum manner.
In a further preferred embodiment, further preferably, at least one acoustic coupling comprises an elongated channel which is preferably formed as a channel through a solid body, more preferably by means of a hose through a hollow space. Such an elongated channel provides the advantage that reliable and considerable acoustic damping is provided with good results. This is possible because there is sufficient space for this in the housing of the hearing protection device according to the present invention and / or preferred embodiment, in contrast to a hearing protection device with a substantially short straight channel which is introduced axially into the ear canal. The filters required for such protection with a suitable short channel with a diameter of substantially one tenth of a millimeter or smaller for sufficient damping can therefore be replaced by the elongated channels as described in this document.
A preferred embodiment is furthermore provided with two acoustic adjustment positions and two acoustic couplings. These are preferably arranged in a sliding arrangement.
According to a further preferred embodiment, the hearing protection device comprises touch-detectable indicator means for sensing at least one adjustment position by touch. As a result, the acoustic coupling is always provided in a reliable manner by correctly reaching the setting position that goes with it. It is done in a way that is easy for the user to observe outside the user's field of vision.
The device preferably further comprises at least one intermediate stop position for providing a positioning of the adjusting means with respect to an acoustic adjusting position. As a result, the adjustment means are advantageously held in an adjustment position.
According to a further preferred embodiment, when the hearing protection device is arranged in the ear, the support member is directed substantially upwards for engaging an edge of the earcup. This engagement with an edge in the earcup contributes to a stable 'sitting' of the device in the ear.
The hearing protection device furthermore comprises, separately or in combination with the support member, a bottom-to-ear contact surface for supporting it by parts of the ear on the bottom of the hearing protection device when it is arranged in the ear. In a preferred combination, the support member and the bottom-to-ear contact surface in preferably further combination with the insertion member provide said stable seat in an ear as a whole. Furthermore, due to the spread of contact, this placement in the ear provides a high degree of comfort when the hearing protection device is arranged in the ear.
For this purpose, a tactile indication and / or the intermediate stop position is advantageously provided under magnet action.
The housing preferably further comprises a receiving chamber for receiving an adjustable element of the adjusting means, and wherein the adjusting means comprise the adjustable element for arranging thereof at the receiving chamber of the housing, the adjustable element comprising the access opening and a passage opening for coupling thereof for forming an acoustic coupling belonging to an acoustic setting position in cooperation with the housing. This provides an inexpensive device to be manufactured in which the housing and the adjustable element can be manufactured in an advantageous manner, for example by means of a molding operation, such as injection molding.
The device preferably further comprises a support member or positioning member for providing a supporting or positioning effect with respect to the ear. As a result, the device can be securely positioned in a confident manner and the user can, for example, easily adjust the adjusting means to another setting. The adjusting means preferably comprise an operating edge for operating it, wherein the operation is preferably substantially ring-shaped around and protrudes from the ear during use in a manner that is substantially engageable by two fingers.
According to a further preferred embodiment, the access opening is arranged in the side of the adjusting means or the operating edge remote from the head.
Further advantages, features and details of the present invention will be described in greater detail below with reference to one or more preferred embodiments with reference to the attached figures. Similar but not necessarily identical components of different preferred embodiments are designated by the same reference numerals.
FIGs. 1-6 provide a number of views of a first preferred embodiment of the present invention.
FIG. 7 provides a schematic representation of a Helmholtz resonator.
FIG. 8 provides a schematic representation of a further preferred embodiment comprising a Helmholtz resonator.
FIG. 9 provides a graphical representation of resonance in a natural ear canal for simulating it by means of a device according to the present invention.
FIG. 10 provides a graphical representation of attenuation effects related to a diameter and a length of a filter channel.
FIGs. 11-17 provide a number of views of a further preferred embodiment of the present invention.
FIG. 18 provides a number of views of a further preferred embodiment of the present invention.
A first preferred embodiment (Fig. 1) according to the present invention relates to an adjustable hearing protection device 1. This comprises a housing 2 with an ear canal channel element 5 arranged thereon for arranging it in an ear canal while wearing the hearing protection device 1. There is also substantially zeppelin-shaped support element 6 arranged on the ear side of the house.
The housing comprises a receiving space 9 for accommodating adjusting means 3. The adjusting means 3 are designed as a rotatable cone 7 with an operating ring 4 arranged thereon. The rotatable cone 7 forms the access opening of the hearing protection device and comprises a passage opening 17 for conducting sound towards inlet openings 11, 12, 13 of the housing.
The shortest path of sound through the housing runs through opening 13 via space 23 to opening 14 towards the ear canal. A slightly longer path of sound through the housing runs through opening 12 through space 22 and then through space 23 through opening 16 through wall 16 'to space 23 and so on. The longest route in this preferred embodiment runs through opening 11 through space 21 through opening 15 through wall 15 'towards space 22 and so on.
Filters (not shown) are provided in the openings 15, 16 to provide additional damping. It is further provided that the placement of filters is possible in the openings 11, 12, 13 and 14. Within the understanding of the present invention and the desired acoustic couplings, the skilled person will configure the placement of these filters as well as the damping effect thereof. Each of these filters is therefore optional within the understanding of the present invention.
Further, in the housing, a magnet is arranged in opening 31 'for cooperating with respective magnets which are arranged in openings 32' of the adjusting means. Hereby, positioning of the cone with the opening 17 relative to respective openings 11, 12, 13 can be realized in a tangible manner. Due to the action of the magnets relative to each other, the adjusting means remain positioned at the position of the adjusting position. It is provided in an alternative manner that the positioning is achieved by means of notches and pre-stressed balls.
The cone is preferably made in such a way that the connection to the housing is soundproof.
FIG. 7 shows the operation of a Helmholtz resonator in which a space 41 is provided with a supply opening 13 and an output opening 14. Similarly, in the preferred embodiment according to FIG. 8 provides a Helmholtz resonator space 41 with two openings 13 'and 14' arranged opposite each other in accordance with the openings of an earlier preferred embodiment. A Helmholtz resonator can be arranged in the device in such a way.
In FIG. 9 shows graphically how natural ear canal frequencies are within the range of 2000 - 4000
Hz with a considerably higher volume of sound supplied to the eardrum than lower and higher frequencies. It is envisaged that such a resonance is simulated by preferred embodiments of the present invention.
In FIG. 10 shows how the sound attenuation is realized using a filter with a diameter of 0.2 mm with a respective length of 0.2 mm,
0.5 mm, 1 mm, 2 mm.
The ear canal element 5 is arranged on a flange 21 and is interchangeably adaptable to the user's ear.
FIG. 11 and 12 show a number of views of a further preferred embodiment according to the present invention. Also shown here is the housing 2 with the ear canal element 5 arranged thereon for arranging it in the ear canal while wearing the hearing protection device 1.
In the accommodation space 9 of the housing, the cone screens can be arranged in a rotatable manner for reaching through the opening 17 of the cone the different channels 61, 62, 63 arranged in a solid element 64 of the housing. Three acoustic couplings are determined by means of these channels 61, 62, 63. A fourth acoustic coupling provides maximum attenuation and in this case does not include a channel.
It is important that the cone 7 is formed with a lower, thicker wall part 71 with the channel 17 therein, which wall part 71 is substantially rigid for connecting to a wall part with the openings for the channels of the housing.
A deformable wall part 72 provides a bias in the direction of the arrow E when the wall part is pressed downwards relative to the wall part 71 in the direction of the arrows F. Pressure elements in the natural position 73, 74 of the material are pressed downwards when the cone is arranged in the housing with the adjusting ring 4 arranged thereon. As a result, the pressure elements 73, 74 are brought into positions 73 ', 74' relative to the wall part 71. The resulting biasing force provides a sustained close connection of the strap portion 71 with a corresponding wall portion 77 of the housing.
A suitable choice of material for the cone, such as a rubber-like material, such as TPE, in combination with the bias provides that the cone is both sealing and rotatable. Easy rotatability is advantageous with the device as it is arranged in the ear for ease of use and comfort in addition to the proper separation of the acoustic couplings and the prevention of sound leaks along the acoustic couplings.
The acoustic coupling using channel 61 provides the most free passages of sound and is preferably such that voice sound is reproduced as neutrally as possible. This makes it possible to speak temporarily with people in the area by choosing this acoustic coupling.
A channel 67 is adapted to serve as a helmholtz resonator for relative amplification of sounds in the range of 2 kHz to 6 kHz, such as the speech range of frequencies.
FIG. 17 shows the contact points with the ear such as the support element 6, the insertion member 5 and a contact surface 78 for contact with the interior of the ear, substantially opposite to the support element 6. This advantageously enables placement of any element in the ear . Apart from a hearing protection device, a judgment with a sound provision is also provided.
In the foregoing, the present invention has been described with reference to a few preferred embodiments. Different aspects of different embodiments are considered described in combination with each other, whereby all combinations that are considered to be read by a person skilled in the art on the basis of this document are included in the understanding of the invention. These preferred embodiments are not restrictive of the scope of this document. The rights requested are defined in the appended claims.
